Factors affecting the oral health of patients on maintenance hemodialysis and recommendations for standardized nursing care: a multicenter study.

To determine the oral health status of patients on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) and to identify the factors influencing their oral health. This observational study included 1,186 patients with chronic kidney disease who received MHD across 33 hospitals in China. The patients were recruited for a questionnaire survey between April and August 2023 at Beijing Chaoyang Hospital using stratified sampling. Data collection tools included the General Information Questionnaire for Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients, the Oral Health Assessment Tool, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Spearman's rank correlation coefficients were used to assess the relationships between the oral health of patients on MHD and continuous variables such as sleep quality and emotional status. Multiple linear regression analysis was employed to explore the relationship between oral health and various variables. The oral health scores of the patients ranged from 8 to 22, with a mean score of 12.54 ± 2.63. The final model of the multiple linear regression analysis indicated a goodness of fit of 22.19%. Independent factors affecting the oral health of patients included smoking, the proportion of medical expenses, water consumption, sleep quality, and anxiety scores (all P < 0.05). High levels of smoking, substantial medical expenses, poor sleep quality, and elevated anxiety scores were risk factors for poor oral health (all P < 0.05). Adequate daily water intake served as a protective factor for oral health (P < 0.05). This study proposes targeted interventions to enhance the management and improvement of oral health in patients on hemodialysis, aiming to provide highly personalised and effective oral health care. These interventions are expected to improve oral health outcomes in future clinical practice.

Assessment of the Oral Health Status of Patients Admitted to Pediatric Intensive Care Units: A Cross-Sectional Study.

It is important to detect oral health problems early among patients admitted to pediatric intensive care units to establish the diagnosis and consequently allow nurses to plan appropriate oral care practices. The study aimed to assess the oral health status of patients admitted to pediatric intensive care units. This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from June to September 2021 in the pediatric intensive care units of 3 hospitals. A total of 88 children were included in the study. An intraoral assessment was performed using a tongue depressor and a flashlight, and data were collected using a patient information form and the Oral Assessment Guide (OAG). The mean OAG score was 8.45 ± 2.876 points. A significant difference was found in the OAG score between the patients 60 months or younger and those 61 months or older (P < .05). The OAG score was significantly associated with the use of diuretics (P < .05) and the frequency of oral care (P < .05). A negative relationship was found between the OAG score and the Glasgow Coma Scale score (P < .05). The oral health status of the patients worsened as their age increased, and their state of consciousness decreased. Oral care was more frequently applied to the patients who received artificial respiration. The study provides evidence-based data regarding the early detection of the factors threatening oral health and the necessary precautions.

Oral Health Status and Treatment Needs among Patients with Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders – A Cross-sectional Study

Background: Oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) such as oral leukoplakia, erythroplakia, lichen planus, and oral submucous fibrosis have been shown to have a high rate of transformation to oral cancer. Although many studies have already been done on the risk factors of OPMDs and oral cancer, there are only a few literature on oral health status of patients suffering from OPMDs in Indian scenario. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the oral health status and treatment needs of patients with OPMDs. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional survey was carried out at the Department of Oncology, Rajarajeswhwari Medical college and hospital and Outpatient Department of Rajarajeswari Dental College and Hospital in Bengaluru after obtaining required permission from the concerned authorities and due ethical clearance. Clinical examination was conducted using the World Health Organization Oral Health Assessment Form for Adults, 2013. Results: Majority of the participants were males, with an age range of 21–75 years, and majority were suffering from leukoplakia (49.9%). Decayed, missing, and filled tooth component was statistically significant (P &lt; 0.05) when comparing mean Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth scores between age, gender, and socioeconomic status. The highest CPI score (score of 2) was found highest in participants (32.47%) with leukoplakia. Regarding the treatment needs, about 94.5% of the participants needed prompt treatment (including scaling). Conclusion: Results revealed that the oral health status of participants with OPMD was average. The CPI score (periodontal status) was high in most participants with OPMD, with the maximum score of 2 found in a large number of participants.

Factors associated with the oral health status of patients with schizophrenia: A cross-sectional study.

Oral function deterioration attributed to ageing and medications is one of the main contributory factors of dysphagia. Therefore, oral health management is essential in older patients with schizophrenia. However, no previous studies have evaluated the oral function in patients with schizophrenia. We surveyed patients with schizophrenia to identify factors associated with ageing-related variations in oral function. This cross-sectional study included 34 male patients diagnosed with schizophrenia who were hospitalised at a psychiatric hospital between July and September 2021 and underwent a screening examination during dental care. The survey items included basic information, oral hygiene information, oral (oral diadochokinesis [ODK] and tongue pressure), physical function, and nutritional status. Thirty-six male community-dwelling older individuals were included as controls, and their outcomes were compared with those of patients with schizophrenia. Compared with healthy older adults, patients with schizophrenia demonstrated significantly lower teeth numbers, ODK, and calf circumference (CC) (p < .05). Multiple regression analysis revealed that ODK was associated with age and schizophrenia (p < .05). Conversely, tongue pressure was associated with CC (p < .05), suggesting different factors' association with the parameters indicating decreased oral function. Our study findings suggest that older patients with schizophrenia have decreased tongue pressure and generalised muscle mass, highlighting the need to manage oral function. Interventions for tongue pressure were more strongly associated with muscle mass and could be easier to manage than those with disease-dependent changes in ODK. Retrospectively registered.

Can Nurses' Training and Documentation Audit Improve the Oral Care Practice among Patients Receiving Cancer Treatment? Results from the Pretest-Post-Pest Study.

Oral complications arising out of radiation therapy and chemotherapy significantly affect the oral health status of patients leading to severe distress. Poor oral health can impair nutritional intake and patient recovery. Trained nurses lack knowledge of oral care of patients receiving cancer treatment. The study is aimed at training the nurses and conducting a documentation audit to assess the effect of the training on their clinical practice. Methods: A quantitative research approach was adopted using one group pretest-post-test design to train 72 nurses on oral care of cancer patients working in radiation oncology wards of a tertiary care setting in the southern part of India. After the training program, 80 head and neck cancer patient records were audited to monitor the implementation of oral care. After completing the training program, the knowledge score increased to 13.54 with a mean difference of 4.15 at a p-value <0.001, which indicates that the training was effective, resulting in a gain in knowledge scores. Nurses reported usage of evidence-based intervention, and patient education materials helped them in the clinical practice and a few barriers to oral care practice were identified while implementing the oral care i.e increased frequency of oral care, increased documentation, and time issues. There was poor adherence to the implementation of oral care for cancer patients after the training program, as monitored by a documentation audit. Capacity building of the nurses in providing effective oral care of cancer patients will help in improving the standards of cancer nursing practice. An implementation audit of the records would help check adherence to the new oral care practice. A hospital-instituted protocol can result in the effective implementation of the practice change rather than a researcher-introduced protocol.

Association of the quantitative oral health status of patients with COVID-19 with their organ status and immunity: A single-centre observational study

ObjectivesTo evaluate the prevalence of oral complications in patients with severe COVID-19; investigate the association between their oral health, organ status, and immunity; and determine whether the resazurin disc test is an effective substitute for the Oral Assessment Guide. Research methodology/designA single-centre observational study. SettingIntensive care unit with restricted access specialising in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for COVID-19 treatment. Main outcome measuresWe investigated the oral health of 13 patients with COVID-19 receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation therapy between April and December 2021 using the Oral Assessment Guide and colour reactive resazurin disc test. The Sequential Organ Failure Assessment and Prognostic Nutritional Index were used to assess organ status and immunity, respectively. The correlation of oral health status with organ status and immunity was investigated. ResultsHigh bacterial levels, revealed by the resazurin disc test, were associated with elevated Oral Assessment Guide scores, indicating oral health deterioration, particularly in terms of teeth and dentures. Increased Sequential Organ Failure Assessment scores and decreased Prognostic Nutritional Index were correlated with poor oral health, revealed by the Oral Assessment Guide and resazurin disc test. ConclusionPoor oral health is an important risk factor for severe COVID-19 complications in patients admitted to an intensive care unit. The Oral Assessment Guide and resazurin disc test can evaluate oral conditions; however, the resazurin disc test is quantitative and does not require salivary specimens to be transferred outside the patient ward for evaluation. The resazurin disc test can be a useful substitute for the Oral Assessment Guide in intensive care units with restricted access. Implications for clinical practiceThe resazurin disc test can be used for quantitative assessment of patients’ oral condition in isolation wards. Multidisciplinary management of patients with COVID-19 should be promoted and involve oral healthcare providers such as dentists and dental hygienists.

Oral health status in patients with inherited epidermolysis bullosa: a comparative multicenter study.

Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic mucocutaneous disorder characterized by epithelial fragility leading to blister formation on skin and mucous membranes with even minor mechanical trauma. Most EB oral health publications give fragmented information, focusing on only one oral health aspect or one EB type. The aim of this study was to expand the knowledge of the overall oral health status of individuals with dystrophic, junctional, and simplex EB. A comparative multicenter study, including a control group, and based on questionnaires and clinical examinations, was undertaken in three EB expert centers. Most EB (90.2%) participants brushed their teeth at least once a day despite the pain. The prevalence of enamel defects and caries experience did not differ between the 42 EB participants and the 42 age-/sex-matched healthy controls. Gingival inflammation unrelated to dental plaque accumulation was found in EB participants. Blisters, erythema, and erosion/ulceration mainly involved gingiva, buccal mucosa, lips, and palate, with different topographic patterns according to EB type. EB patients whatever the age showed a similar lesion distribution. Simplex and dystrophic EB patients under 12 years old displayed higher lesion severity than junctional EB ones. Only dystrophic type exhibited microstomia and ankyloglossia. Oral health status seemed to benefit from a close collaboration between dental practitioner and dermatologist, and from regular dental examination, starting at a young age and with a focus on prevention. The new appreciation of oral health involvement highlighted by this study is essential for EB patients care, regarding comorbidities and quality of life.

Self-reported oral health status: Perspectives of patients undergoing therapy for cancer of the head and neck region, in the eThekwini District, KZN

There is a dearth of published evidence related to understanding oral health needs for patients undergoing therapy for cancer of the head and neck region in South Africa. This study aimed to assess perceived oral health status of patients undergoing therapy for cancer of the head and neck region, in eTthekwini district, KwaZulu-Natal. This was a cross-sectional case study using quantitative data to determine patients’ perspectives of oral health status and need. The study population comprised 235 voluntary patients (aged between 20-70 years old), undergoing treatment or follow up for cancer therapy of the head and neck region, in a public tertiary referral hospital in the eThekwini district, KwaZulu-Natal. Purposive sampling technique was used for participant selection. The research instrument comprised a combination of two previously validated questionnaires: a core questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30, Version 3.0) and the head and neck cancer specific module (EORTC H&amp;N-35). Data was analysed using the statistical package for software sciences (SPSS), version 24. More than half of the study population were male (60%;n= 141). The mean age was 54.38 (SD= 12.30). The results indicate that 14.5% (n=34) were employed, 46.4% (n=109) were unemployed because of cancer and 39.1% (n=92) were unemployed due to other reasons (old age, housewife). Oral cavity cancer was the most common (n=91; 38.7%), followed by laryngeal cancer (n= 53; 22.6%) among all the other head and neck cancers. Males(n=50; 21.3%) were more affected by oral cavity cancer as compared to females (n=41; 17.4%). With reference to treatment, 20.4% (n=48) were on radiotherapy, 28.5% (n=67) were on chemotherapy and 9.8% (n=23) were on CCRT, 17.4% (n=41) had surgery, 8.5% (n=20) were recently diagnosed with cancer of the head and neck and 23.4% (n=55) were on follow up. Oral health-related symptoms were experienced to varying degree by the participants. The majority of participants (n=125; 53.2%) did not report any pain and discomfort. More female participants (n=7; 7.4%) in the age group of 41-60 reported of severedifficulty in swallowing liquids than males of the same age group. Most participants (n=148; 63.0%) had difficulty in swallowing solid foods. Similarly, the majority of participants experienced problems with their teeth (n=162; 69.0%), reported xerostomia (n=159; 67.7%). With reference to trismus, a higher proportion of females (n=27; 28.7%) reported severe trismus compared to male participants (n=33; 23.4%). With reference to increased viscosity of saliva, 34.0% (n=32) of females reported extremely sticky saliva as compared to 29.8% males (n=42).

Oral Health Status of Children with Special Healthcare Need: A Retrospective Analysis.

To evaluate the oral health status of children with special healthcare needs (CSHCN) having either systemic illness or any disabilities. A retrospective analysis of oral health status was done from Jan 2013 to Dec 2018 on 58 CSHCN (both genders) up to 16 years of age. The oral health status of patients was assessed with the decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT/dmft) indices and simplified oral hygiene index (OHI-S) by using the World Health Organization (WHO) 2013 oral health survey criteria. Fair oral hygiene was dominantly present (62%) among all the subjects. Association between oral hygiene status and systemic illness/disability was done using the Chi-squared (χ 2 ) test and was found statistically nonsignificant. The overall mean DMFT/dmft found was 4.16. The highest mean DMFT/dmft score was recorded in nephrotic syndrome patients (16.0%), while the least score was seen among cleft anomalies (1.89%). Comparison between mean DMFT/dmft scores among various systemic illnesses/disabilities were done using Kruskal-Wallis one-way analysis of variance (Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA) test and found statistically significant (p-value 0.048). The majority of the CSHCN fall under fair oral hygiene status. A high caries prevalence and statistically significant value were demonstrated between mean DMFT/dmft scores of various systemic illnesses/disabilities. Present study aids in understanding the needs of the community, identifying high-risk groups, planning the required treatment and prevention strategies, and thus monitoring and improving the oral health status of children with special healthcare needs. Association between oral health and oral health-related quality of life in patients before hip and knee endoprosthesis surgery: a cross-sectional study

ObjectivesAim of this cross-sectional study was the assessment of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) health-related quality of life (HRQoL), oral health behaviour and oral health status in patients before hip and knee endoprosthesis (EP) surgery. Moreover, associations between OHRQoL, HRQoL and oral health should be examined.MethodsConsecutive patients before hip and/or knee EP implantation were recruited and referred to the dental clinic for oral examination including: number of remaining teeth, dental findings (DMF-T-Index), periodontal condition (periodontal treatment need, Staging/Grading) and temporomandibular joint screening. OHRQoL was assessed by the German short form of oral health impact profile (OHIP G14), HRQoL by short-form 36 survey.ResultsHundred and sixty two patients with a mean age of 66.80 ± 11.10 years were included, which had on average 18.22 ± 8.57 remaining teeth and a periodontal treatment need of 84.5%. The OHIP G14 sum score revealed a median of 1 (mean: 2.7 ± 4.4, 25–75th percentile: 0–4) and its dimension oral function of 0 (mean: 0.8 ± 1.8, 25–75th percentile: 0–1), what was also found for psychosocial impact (median: 0, mean: 1.4 ± 2.6, 25–75th percentile: 0–2). The OHIP G14 sum score and both dimensions were significantly associated with mental component summary (p < 0.01). A higher number of remaining teeth as well as remaining molars/premolars were associated with lower OHIP G14 sum score (p = 0.02). This was also found for the dimension oral function (p < 0.01).ConclusionPatients prior to hip and knee EP had an unaffected OHRQoL, although they had an insufficient oral health. Individuals before EP implantation need increased attention in dental care, fostering information, sensibilization and motivation of the patients.

Oral health status of patients with inherited bone marrow failure syndromes

Inherited bone marrow failure syndromes (IBMFS), including Fanconi anemia (FA), Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA) and congenital neutropenia (CN), are rare diseases related to impaired hematopoiesis in different hematopoietic cell lineages in the bone marrow. Oral health may be impaired in these patients related to the disease itself, due to cytopenia , or related to the drugs the patients use, such as glucocorticoids . The present research was aimed to present the oral health status of patients with IBMFS. This descriptive study was conducted with 27 children and adolescents (11 FA,9 DBA,7 CN). The data was collected via a structured and pre-tested questionnaire and by oral-dental examination clinically and, if needed, radiographically. Dental caries was evaluated with “Decayed, Missing, Filled Tooth/Surface indices (dmft/s, DMFT/S)” and “International-Caries-Detection-and-Evaluation-System-(ICDAS-II)”. The patients' oral hygiene and gingival health status were recorded with “plaque and gingival index”, respectively. Statistical analysis was carried out by using Statistical-Package-for-the-Social-Sciences-Version-20.0. Of all groups, 54% were found to have no regular teeth brushing habits; 21 patients (77.8%) had initial or cavitated dental caries according to ICDAS–II–index-system. There are various oral mucosal lesions (aphthous lesions, dry chipped lips, angular cheilitis , leukoplakia , hairy and geographic tongue) and dental abnormalities (microdontia, taurodontism , rotation, ankylosis , hypoplastic teeth, germ deficiency, cingulum hypertropia , dens invaginatus , pulp stones) were detected. Extensive dental caries, gingival inflammation and inadequate oral hygiene status, showed the necessity of early dental visits. Adopting regular dental counseling as part of the multi-disciplinary team approach for patients with IBMFS is necessary to ensure better general and oral health. • Patients with IBMFS had highly dental caries. • Patients had gingival inflammation and inadequate oral hygiene status. • It is highly recommended adopting the regular dental counseling as part of the multidisciplinary team approach for patients with IBMFS to ensure better general and oral health.

This article discusses the different types of sensory impairments and their aetiology. It considers how the oral health status in patients with sensory impairments is impacted by their disability and the barriers these patients face in dental care. It also discusses legislation relevant to dental care professionals when caring for patients with disabilities, including the Mental Capacity Act (2005), the Equality Act (2010) and the Accessible Information Standard (2016). Finally, it provides recommendations to dental care professionals on how they can best manage patients with sensory impairments and communicate with them effectively in order to provide them with quality dental care.

The effect of oral care using honey as an additional topical agent on oral health status of intubated patients in the intensive care unit

BackgroundPatients using endotracheal tubes are at high risk of oral health status dysfunction due to impaired natural airway defence, oral flora composition changes and protective substances of the teeth, medication causing xerostomia. Oral care has not been enough to manage oral mucosal dryness, so an additional topical agent is needed to protect oral mucosa to maintain oral health. Honey is one of the recommended topical agents. ObjectiveThis study aims to identify the effect of oral care with honey as topical agents on the oral health status of patients using endotracheal tube in the Intensive Care Unit. MethodsThis was an experimental study with a randomized pretest and posttest design. The sample was adult intubated patients, consisting of 36 patients. The data were analysed using the parametric test, and dependent and independent t-test. ResultsThe oral health score in the control group was found to be pre & post mean score11.94 and 13.28 (p=.004) respectively, while in the intervention group 11.89 and 8.33 (p<.001). Mean differences in both groups were 4.95 (p<.001) and the BOAS subscale differences were seen on the lips, gums & mucosa, and tongue (p<.05). ConclusionOral care with honey as a topical agent can improve the oral health status of intubated patients on the lips, gum, mucosa, and tongue subscale. Therefore, honey as an additional topical agent can be a moisturizer to maintain the oral mucosa for intubated patients in the Intensive Care Unit. Furthermore, good mucosal health will help prevent the infection and colonization of microorganisms.

Applications of Silver Nanoparticles in Pediatric Dentistry: An Overview.

Nanoscience and nanotechnology are emerging fields involved in the synthesis and application of nanoscale materials and structures. Metallic nanoparticles and metallic oxide are being used extensively in dentistry as they interfere with bacterial metabolism and prevent biofilm formation. AgNPs are a class of zero-dimensional materials with distinctive morphologies. The metallic nanoparticles demonstrate the significant antimicrobial activity by ion release, oxidative stress induction, and non-oxidative mechanisms. Metallic silver has been known for its antimicrobial activity since ancient times. Through the years, silver-containing compounds have been used in various forms to treat several medical conditions. Incorporating silver nanoparticles into dental materials may enhance the mechanical features and antibacterial properties of dental materials. Therefore, an increasing number of dental materials with the inclusion of silver nanoparticles are being developed that improve the overall oral health status of patients. This paper aims to review the literature on specific characteristics of silver nanoparticles and their applications in pediatric dentistry.

The Effect of Professional Oral Care on the Oral Health Status of Critical Trauma Patients Using Ventilators

Background: Oral care reduces the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia. In addition, it is important that critically ill patients to maintain their oral health in order to restore their quality of life and to receive adequate nutrition after recovery. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of professional oral hygiene care (POHC) on the oral health status of patients using a ventilator. Methods: Fifty-seven ventilated trauma patients were admitted to a tertiary medical institution. For 5 days, the dental hygienist performed POHC every 24 h along with routine oral hygiene care (ROHC) every 8 h for the experimental group (Exp.) (n = 29), whereas only ROHC was provided the control group (Cont.) (n = 28). Oral health status was evaluated using a modified bedside oral exam (MBOE). Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups in the total MBOE score up to 48 h after admission. However, the difference between the two groups was significant for MBOE (F = 16.10, p = 0.000), gingiva (F = 6.02, p = 0.018), buccal mucosa (F = 4.21, p = 0.046), and dental plaque score after 72 h (F = 13.15, p = 0.000). Conclusion: This study confirms the importance of POHC in improving the oral health.

The pathological oral cavity as a preventable source of postoperative pneumonia in thoracic surgery: a prospective observational study.

BackgroundPneumonia after thoracic surgery considerably contributes to perioperative morbidity and mortality. So far, the forced expiratory volume in one second and diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon dioxide are the most common validated prognosticators to estimate individual risk. Beyond functional parameters, modifiable risk factors for respiratory complications like pneumonia are poorly investigated in a prospective way. Thus, we aimed to assess the impact of oral health status in patients undergoing thoracic surgery and its correlation to perioperative outcomes.MethodsA prospective observational study included adult patients undergoing elective thoracic surgery from October 2, 2018 to April 29, 2020. The day before surgery, patients were examined by a dentist. Oral health status (caries, periodontal disease, tooth loss, and regular dental visits) was correlated with perioperative outcomes.ResultsDuring the study period, 230 consecutive patients were included. Oral health status was poor in the study population. Postoperative complications were associated with active caries [odds ratio (OR) 2.5, P<0.03]. Patients with frequent dental visits and treated teeth had a lower risk for postoperative complications compared with patients without regular visits (OR 0.3, P<0.02). Patients with a high burden of caries had a significantly increased risk for pneumonia (OR 7.9, P<0.002). The forced expiratory volume in one second was a significant prognosticator for postoperative complications; however, no association between the forced expiratory volume in one second and oral health parameters was observed.ConclusionsA pathological oral health status is a modifiable factor predicting postoperative complications and pneumonia. A prospective randomized interventional study is warranted to clarify whether an improvement in oral health status can lead to a reduction of perioperative risk.

Oral Health Status in Patients with Head and Neck Cancer before Radiotherapy: Baseline Description of an Observational Prospective Study.

Simple SummaryPatients with head and neck cancer (HNC) are often considered as a group with compromised oral conditions, but this idea is not sufficiently supported by data in the literature. This study examined the oral condition—specifically the presence of caries and periodontal disease—of a cohort of patients with HNC waiting to start radiation therapy treatment and possible correlations between oral health, different types of HNC and various risk factors. The results confirm that the oral status of many patients with HNC is poor even before radiotherapy treatments and that smoking habit and tumor site are associated with poor oral health. These findings underline the importance of a dentist within a head and neck tumor board (TB), so that oral health can be restored as soon as possible.(1) Background: The general hypothesis that HNC patients show compromised oral health (OH) is generally accepted, but it is not evidence-based. The objective of this baseline report of a prospective observational study was to describe the oral health of a cohort of patients with HNC at the time of dental evaluation prior to radiotherapy (RT). (2) Materials and Methods: Two hundred and thirteen patients affected by HNC who had received an indication for RT were examined with the support of orthopantomography (OPT). The DMFt of all included subjects, their periodontal status and the grade of mouth opening were recorded. (3) Results: A total of 195 patients were ultimately included: 146/195 patients (74.9%) showed poor OH (defined as having a DMFt score ≥ 13 and severe periodontitis). The following clinical characteristics were correlated with poor oral health in the univariate analysis: tumor site, smoking habit and age of the patients (in decades); χ2 test, p < 0.05. (4) Conclusions: This study confirms that the OH of HNC patients is often compromised even before the beginning of cancer treatment and, consequently, highlights how important it is to promptly schedule a dental evaluation at the moment of diagnosis of the cancer.
